Can you advise us on how to insure our holiday?
I would advise you to use a company you might already be using for other types of insurance cover, or one recommended by a friend. However I have also done some research and found The Post Office do insurance and this can be bought at a local branch, by phone at 0800 294 2292 or online www.cover-uk.com/travel_insurance.htm I hope this helps.
How do we pay our balance?
By Cheque - payable to "Lorna Shelbourn" - and send to the address on the contact us page.
By BACS - email me and I will supply you with the account details, this is also given on the downloadable Booking Form.
By Credit Card - In line with being as transparent as possible about the charge Automatic acceptance of credit cards for larger payment via the site is not offered. Credit card payment can be made by using paypal, there is a 4.5% charge, (e.g. £13.50 charge on a £300 balance) should you wish to use this method email me and I will send you a payment request email which has a simple click through and you pay online using your credit card.
Why don't you accept Credit Cards directly?
I prefer not to be aware of, or have responsibility for storing our customers private credit card details. Paypal charge for this service Im afraid the charge for the payment if you choose to use this method has to be passed onto you.
Which way do you recommend we travel to Lochcarron?
I usually recommend travelling to Lochcarron via Inverness and travel home via Glasgow, but this may not suit you? The reason for this is the roads are good coming via Inverness but the views are not to be missed on the West, so travel back that way when you are fresh and can appreciate them.
How do we find the cottage?
Copy and paste the "find us" page on this site to your computer, to print off and take with you.
Where do we get the keys?

What time can we get in?
Your hire starts at 4pm on the day of arrival, and ends at 10am on the day of departure. However we will try to accommodate you if you arrive early, pop in and have a chat with the cleaner and she / he will tell you how long s/he expects to be. Most of the time we can (with the co-operation of the party leaving), get the cottage ready earlier if you request it. Please ask.
Does my cottage have an open fire?
Yes if you are staying in Harbour Cottage and Samphire Lodge has a woodburning stove.
Where can I get fuel for the fire?
We supply a starter pack at the beginning of the season, and ask that you replace what you use at the local shop or garage before you leave.
Do I need £1 coins for the electricity meter?
No, but please note Harbour Cottage payment for electricity is by Supplier Key, which can be topped up at the shop and post office details are in the cottage.
Can I bring my pet?
At the moment we only accept dogs in Tigh an Eilean, Moriston Cottage and Harbour Cottage. There is a charge of £10 per week per pet, and we ask that you do not leave your dog alone in the cottage, nor allow them into the bedrooms/upstairs or on the furniture.
We would also ask that you pick up after your dog has been to the toilet in the garden.
Any damage done by your pet must be reported and rectified. We have been welcoming dogs to our cottages for over 20 years and in that time only twice have we experienced any damage, and we thank you for your co-operation.

Are there any places to eat or go for a drink in Lochcarron?
To eat in or take away in the village Lochcarron Hotel, Waterside Cafe and The Bistro on the main street in Lochcarron. Rockvilla Guest House, serves meals but must be booked in advance, they offer a takeaway menu.
Within 3 miles serving meals and drinks. The Strathcarron Hotel and 4 miles The Carron Restaurant (lovely surf and turf - all meals made on the premises), and 7 miles The Kishorn Seafood snack bar (well worth a visit to try something more unusual in the shellfish range). The local golf club also welcome visitors at the Tee Off Cafe during the day.
All of the above will do takeaway if you ask them, and the Carron Restaurant will deliver meals to your cottage on your day of arrival, but you must give them plenty of notice. Their Christmas Hampers are well worth a look too! They have recently started to sell their home baked bread.
Does Lochcarron have a Highland Games day?
Yes it is always the third Saturday in July, (the local Shinty Club usually have a dance in the village hall the Friday night before the games too).
The Shinty Club play locally pretty much every Saturday during the summer. Also watch out for the Sailing Club who provide a pleasant display of sailing to watch from the shore on Wednesdays evenings and Sundays.
